Good fits
- Audio versions of approved articles.
- Hands-free status updates or alerts.
- Accessibility for people who prefer listening.
- Voice interfaces with predictable responses.
- Internal training or navigation where human recording is expensive to update.
Poor fits
Sensitive announcements, emotional storytelling, or branded voices may need a person. TTS also struggles when the source text is badly written, full of unfamiliar names, or needs expressive performance rather than clear speech.
What to test
Test pronunciation, pauses, numbers, names, listening fatigue, and whether people complete the audio. A technically natural voice is not enough if the content is hard to follow or the listener cannot control the pace.
